33 states offer “Choose Life” specialty license plates, while only five states (Alaska,
Montana, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Virginia) have Pro-Choice plates.
In the last 20 years, Choose Life plates have raised over $40million to advance anti-abortion efforts.
The effort to obtain approval for Pro-Choice license plates was blocked by ridiculous court rulings. The plates were prohibited based on decisions that states have the right to discriminate and censure private speech by categorizing specialty license plates as government speech. In the Walker case of 2015, the Supreme Court upheld rulings that permitted states to allow Pro-Life specialty license plates while rejecting specialty license plates that say “Respect Choice”.

We can channel our anger and change this gross inequity by promoting license plates for women’s rights that cannot be outlawed. License plates for women’s rights can unify and empower our ProChoice Majority in all 50 states.
Specialty plates increase awareness and raise consciousness for women’s rights are not controversial and can’t be defeated in court. In addition to being extremely popular, the plates will more than adequately convey the Pro-Choice message. Advancing gender equality builds capacity for a woman’s right to choose.
Requirements for the approval of specialty plates vary by state. All states require signed petitions and application fees to the DMV. Some states also want a minimum number of declarations of intent to purchase the plates. Applications can require as many as 10,000 signatures and fees as high as $30,000.
OPPOSE OTHER ANTI-ABORTION GOVERNMENT ACTS
The United States government supports big insurance companies and opposes a women’s right to choose.
MEDICAID is a federal and state program that contracts with private insurance companies to assist the poorest people in America with healthcare. In 33 states plus the District of Columbia, Medicaid will only provide insurance coverage for abortion in instances of rape, incest or life endangerment.
